Before shopping for a mattress you need to arm yourself with pertinent information. First determine what type of bed is best for you. Do you like soft or hard beds? Would you prefer a standard mattress or a foam mattress? If you are not sure, go try out a few different mattress types. Second, consider your budget. This is not a purchase you want to scrimp on, as a poor night’s sleep can affect your whole day. Try to get as much value as you can for your budget. Finally, size is a very important factor especially if there is more than one person sleeping in the bed. Ideally, you should both be able to lie on the bed with your arms behind your heads and not touch. A bed needs to be 10-15 cm longer than the tallest person sleeping in that bed. Also pay attention to the height. Lower beds can be easy to get into but harder to get out of. High beds can be hard to get into, especially for shorter people, but very easy to hop out of in the morning.
The next component of a mattress set that affects back support is the foundation, or boxspring. The foundation/boxspring absorbs weight for the mattress. It is important to purchase the boxspring designed to match your mattress because manufacturers design both pieces to work together. A mismatched set may adversely affect the longevity of your mattress and the level of support the mattress provides.
The firmness of a memory foam mattress is used in defining comfort. A memory foam mattress can be firm to supple. Because your weight is distributed evenly over a memory foam mattress, you get a firm feeling without your hips, back, and joints being compromised. And because a memory foam mattress adapts to your body heat, your body gets the cradling support it requires. Almost every Memory Foam Mattress is temperature sensitive. At lower temperatures, the mattress is firmer or more viscous while at higher temperatures, the memory foam mattress is softer making the mattress more comforting, as it is more elastic. The mattress’s temperature sensitivity is responsible for the melting feeling you have whenever you are lying on it and this accentuates the foam’s molding affect. This is another thing that a spring mattress does not have. A spring mattress does not react to the heat of the user’s body.
