My husband and I slept soundly on this latex mattress for 35 years without experiencing any aches or pains as we grew older, and we partially attribute our freedom from medicine and the good health we enjoy to this latex mattress! It wasn’t until about the 33rd year when we noticed that the cover was wearing out and exposing the latex in a few spots, so we simply put it in a zippered mattress cover. This worked well until the 34th year, when we started noticing slight sagging and body indentations. We then began our search to purchase another latex mattress like it. I searched online for the same latex mattress manufacturer, but was disappointed to learn that they had closed their doors. A neighbor suggested we visit a small, local mattress manufacturer in our area whose family had been building mattresses for 3 generations. I wanted to be certain that he could provide the same latex as that of our first latex mattress. I told the owner the name of its manufacturer, and I remember him saying, \"All latex is the same.\" He was wrong! Having purchased three mattresses within a 3-year period, I believe I’m qualified to report: ALL latex is NOT the same!
In continuing my online search for my perfect latex mattress, I discovered a very caring and helpful mattress manufacturer. Lee Carter, the owner and now my new friend, has a wealth of personal experience building mattresses and has an abundance of knowledge concerning the mattress industry. He has revealed important insider information that I was not aware of, such as a new government regulation which has caused mattress manufacturers to use chemicals to make fire resistant mattresses. Was the general public notified of this new regulation? Not only was I concerned about exposing my body to the potentially harmful chemicals in a new mattress, chemicals can also emit fumes and odors, which could cause me to become nauseated due to my sensitivity to smells. To my knowledge, Lee Carter owns the only company that offers its customers \"chemical free\" mattresses after simply obtaining a qualified prescription.
Firm mattresses fall in 3 categories: firm, extra-firm, ultra-firm. The firm mattresses include the Orbit, Neptune Cotton Only and the Single Foam futon mattresses. Usually, these firm mattresses have very little foam, and are cotton only, giving it the firm feeling. The ones with foam use a denser foam that makes the mattress less soft. These mattresses are great for people who like to sleep on something firm and who need the additional support. The extra-firm mattresses include the Simmons Monarch 2 and the Liberty Futon Mattress. Some of these mattresses are created with very dense layers of foam from top to bottom. Finally, the ultra-firm mattresses are for those that love to sleep on the ground. These mattresses are usually not recommended for a futon frame, but more for a platform bed. These are for people who want that firm feeling of a traditional Japanese futon mattress. The high density of the foam makes these mattresses very heavy and harder to move around.
